The beginning of the 2010 season of the Romanian Superbike Championship (RoSBK) couldn't find me anywhere else but at Serres! I went there together with Mihai Matei, my colleague for the previous season.
This was the first time for us on track without being registered for a school, so we did not have great expectations. We just wanted to qualify for and participate in the endurance race.
Unfortunately our plans were messed up because the organizers decided to cancel the endurance race. The good news were that there would be a GP race for the C class (the beginner's group).
As I was not a fan of the speed races and the riders in the B group (intermediate) sometimes looked a little too motivated, I never participated to a GP race. But, with the endurance race cancelled and this beginner's race, we decided to give it a try. Because we registered very late, we had to start from the last positions of the grid.
The race day arrived after a rainy night, but the track did dry out (well... most of it). Before the start, I asked Victor Nemes for an advice: what should I do at the start? He asked me what was my position on the grid, and when I said I was the last, he said that there is nothing to worry about!
The track opened for the race and we entered the track. We found our positions on the grid (mine was easy to find!) and went for the warm-up tour. Back on the grid... red lights on... red lights out: Start!
During the first lap I was able to pass a few riders, untill I got behind Catalin Diaconu. I stayed behind him for a few laps, having a complex to overtake him. I finally passed on the very short straight line after the 10th corner. Because I lost so much time behind this guy, I lost the contact with the others. Anyway, before the race ended, I passed a few more riders and I finished on the 15th place. My best laptime was 1:39.8.
I used for the first time on track my new gadget, the GoPro Hero HD camera, so I can show an on-board video of the race.
