RoSBK 2014 Round 4, Brno, July 9th
Brno... one of the modern speed temples. The place where Valentino Rossi and his likes wrote history. A racetrack where I wanted to get for many years. Finally, a special offer from the organizers of Dunlop Romanian Superbike convinced me to participate at the 4th round of the championship. Even if the offer was for only two days on the track and they were in the middle of the week (Wednesday and Thursday), it was an opportunity I could not miss.
So, after a break of almost two years, I finally got back on a motorcycle seat. Because of the long break and because this was the first time for me in Brno, I registered with the slowest group (C). Even after the groups re-distribution after the first half-day, I didn't manage to have a laptime good enough to promote to the B group (I just missed a few tenth of a second). This was a good and a bad thing all together. Good - because I had the chance to practice passing and bad because I was one of the fastest riders in the group and I had no one better to follow and learn the track, improving my laptimes faster. The end of the qualifying sessions found me with a best lap of 2:31.958, placing me on the .... position on the starting grid of the combined Superbike and Supersport rookies race.
When the race time arrived, because the organizers didn't make proper announcements, I missed the sighting lap and I had to wait on the pit lane for the warm-up lap. This made it very difficult for me to find my position on the starting grid and I started the race from the last row. Even if my start was not so good (as usual :)!), the riders around me had an even worse one so I managed to recover a lot before the first corner. During the second lap I made another pass on Ciprian Mitrasca and then I pushed a little during the next two laps in order to put some gap. Then, as the rider in front of me (Ninja Eddy from Israel) was a little too far to reach in the remaining few laps, I dropped the pace a bit and I finished the race on the 19th position (the 9th in the superbike class). My best lap was 2:29.985.

Considering the fact that I was coming after a long break on a new track for me, I had no special objective for this race (apart from not falling!), I think it was a good return to the racetrack.
